When Eyjafjallajokul famously erupted 10 years ago, Philip’s imagination was caught, and he visited Iceland to paint. He fell in love with the country’s unique terrain and has since painted on the volcano, on a glacier and in a series of caves deep below the earth’s surface. The contrast between fire and ice inspired him to paint with a wider palette and freed his imagination to create landscapes that are both scenic and surreal.
